Recently Kazuyo Sejima (above right) of SANAA Architects was named the director of the 2010 Venice Architecture Biennial, the first women to hold the position.

Together with Ryue Nishizawa (above left) they have recently worked on projects such as (below left to right) the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, the Kanazawa museum of Contemporary Art, and the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion. Their work is speaks of honesty and is often transparent in some form, nothing to hide but everything to show.

Cord Chair by MARUNI + NENDO via The Contemporist

maruninendo2

Japanese wood workshop Maruni and highly acclaimed Nendo design have teamed up to create a ultra minimal wood chair. At first glance it is hard to believe that this chair is structurally sound. Great detail has gone into creating this illusion of lightness, hollowed out solid wood pieces are used to slip over the 9mm internal metal frame creating a slim leg with a diameter of only 15mm. Each chair is hand made and takes about a month to produce.

Currently this chair is only a Limited Production.
